R.I.P. Pandemic Studios

The widely reported rumor of Pandemic Studios closure has come to pass. As Ben Fritz of the LA Times reports, the Westwood studio will be closed by parent company Electronic Arts (EA), sending roughly 200 employees packing. It is expected that 25 or so of the company’s employees will make a transition to EA’s other LA studio in Playa Vista.

With EA experiencing heavy financial losses last quarter it is not surprising that they are tightening their belt. The Pandemic closure and 200 employee layoff is part of wider cuts that put the total headcount at around 1,500 employees. Included in those leaving Pandemic and EA behind are company co-founders Andrew Goldman and Josh Resnick. Good luck to them and the rest of their staff.
